1. How do I apply to join SCYP?

       The application to apply for membership is available in the spring for the next school year.

2. What has SCYP done?

       Wehave learned about the granting process, written grant guidelines and an application. We distributed the application to the public. In March, we awarded the first ever SCYP grants to the community.

3. How old do you have to be to get involved?

       You can be any age to start being an active philanthropist, but to apply to our group, you need to be in high school.

4. Who/what is SCYP?

       We are the Story County Youth Philanthropists. Our mission statement: Youth providing support to our community through grants and service, while learning lifelong philanthropic skills and attitudes.

5. Who is in charge?

       Meetings are led on a rotating facilitator basis. We believe everyone has an equal part on our team. However, we are advised by Suzan Shierholz, president of Story County Community Foundation; Stephanie Corbett, Volunteer Center of Story County; and Tabby Budd, Iowa State University Sophomore and Student Director

6. Who serves on the board? 

      Eighteen high school students from Ames and Gilbert currently serve on our board. Check out our bios page to learn more about us!

7. What does SCYP stand for?

       Story County Youth Philanthropists

8. When, where, and how often do we meet?

       We meet the first and third Sundays of each month, 8:00-9:30 pm, at the Volunteer Center of Story County.

9. What do we do?

       We award $5,000 in grants, given to us by the Story County Community Foundation, into the community. We also apply for grants to support our service projects and education.

10. What is the primary goal of SCYP?

       Our primary goal is to support the community through grants.
